Khichdi National Food Of India ? Twitter stormed out with reactions ! Khichdi, or khichri, is a dish from the South Asia made from rice and lentils, but other variations include bajra and mung dal kichri. In Indian culture, it is considered one of the first solid foods that babies eat.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, headed by Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, will be pitching for khichdi to be declared as India’s national food at an upcoming event.
(Khichdi (pronounced [ˈkʰɪtʃɽi]), or khichri, is a dish from the South Asia made from rice and lentils (dal), but other variations include bajraand mung dal kichri. In Indian culture, it is considered one of the first solid foods that babies eat. Hindus, who avoid eating grains during fasting, eat Sabudana Khichadi made from Sago.  The Kichri is a salty porridge. Dalia is another similar sweet porridge made from the crushed wheat or barley mixed with sugar and milk. Khichdi was the inspiration for the Anglo-Indian dish kedgeree, and is also commonly considered to be the inspiration for the popular Egyptian dish, kushari. The brand India Khichdi unofficially designated as India’s National Dish by the media and promoted globally by the government as “India’s superfood” and “queen of all foods”, its recipe includes rice, mung beans, amaranth grain, jowar, bajra, barley and Indian spices.Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Minister of Food Processing Industries of India, outlined her ministery’s plan to globally promote Kichadi as healthy, delicious, economical and easy to make Superfood of India with an event to crate a Guinness World Records of making largest 800 kg Kichadi by the celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor in country’s biggest-ever global food expo, the World Food India in Delhi on 4 November 2017 where it will be distributed to ambassadors and delegates from more than 60 countries}

An official notification from the ministry says khichdi “symbolizes India’s great culture of unity in diversity at its best”. The dish will be promoted as the Brand India Food at the event on Saturday.
